Derivatives are playing an increasingly important role
in fund management.
UCITS 3 has changed the fund management
environment forever. For example, the use of derivatives for investment has
opened up the whole credit market through CDSs, the increasingly
complex CDOs and credit indexes like iBoxx and iTraxx.
They bring such major benefits, through increased flexibility,
hedging, gearing, exposure to new markets etc. that their
use can only increase.
However, with this increase of OTC products comes increased
risks !
Controlling derivatives cannot be done by models alone.
A clear understanding of the products, the processes and
operational risks are essential to ensure there are no
mistakes and NO FRAUD.
